Three major pharmacies are now pulling Sanofi’s heartburn medication Zantac off its shelves.
CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid are pulling the drug over cancer concerns.
The move comes after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said acid-reducing medicines with ranitidine contain low levels of an impurity that could cause cancer.
CVS was the first to pull the medicine of its shelves, as well as its generic version.
Despite CVS’s decision to stop selling the medicine, Zantac and its generic counterpart have not been recalled.
The FDA has not recommended that patients stop taking ranitidine products.
But patient’s who wish to discontinue may want to talk to the doctor about other options.
CVS also says customers who have already bought the product can return them for a refund.
