Democrats project unity on day one of DNC
Transcript
The Democratic National Convention begins a week of speeches and virtual events tonight, kicking off the home stretch of the presidential campaign.
As we told you last night this year’s convention will be completely virtual.
Now we have more details about what to expect on the first night.
The opening-night theme is “We The People,” showcasing an overall unity theme.
Bernie Sanders, who battled Biden during the primary debates, is among the Monday headliners.
Also appearing Monday is 2016 Republican presidential candidate John Kasich and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Since Kamala Harris joined Joe Biden on the ticket they have come together around certain themes including the former vice president’s ongoing call that 2020 is a battle for the “soul of the nation.
But at the campaign’s core now is trying to persuade voters they are best equipped to lead the US out of the coronavirus pandemic.
