According to the National Weather Service 40 cities across the country could break record hot temperatures starting today (Sunday) through Tuesday.
Heat alerts are already in effect from California to Florida.
On the West Coast, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Tucson will all see high temperatures of at least 110 degrees and all three are likely to tie or break their daily record high temperatures.
In the Northeast cities in New England are under heat advisories.
In the southeast cities like Orlando, Florida, Montgomery, Alabama, Columbia, South Carolina and here in Atlanta where our studio is located will hit high temperatures of at least 95 degrees but those cities are not under heat advisories.
And just because the sun goes down doesn’t mean the heat will too.
For example Saturday morning Phoenix recorded a low temperature of 94 degrees.
Yes that was the low temperature!
And that’s a problem because it doesn’t allow the body to cool down successfully at night.
The temperatures need to drop to at least 80 degrees for body recovery to begin.
If the temperatures never drop below 85 degrees at night, a person can lose up to 67 ounces (or nearly half a gallon) of fluid overnight through sweating.
And that can lead to a host of heat related ailments like dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, stroke and possibly death.
