The executive at Starbucks reached out to us this morning to share good news.
The coffee giant is opening a 5th store signing store!
On Saturday, June 27 a signing store will open in Japan.
It will be located in Kunitachi City, Tokyo.
Starbucks officials say that neighborhood has a long history of being part of the deaf and hard of hearing community.
The store will hire nineteen new and existing deaf and hard of hearing partners as well as hearing partners fluid in Japanese Sign Language (JSL).
The store’s interior design will look similar to other signing stores including aprons with ‘Starbucks’ embroidered in fingerspelling, customized ordering systems where customers can order using notepads and artwork designed by local CODA artist.
In addition to Japan, there are now signing stores in Washington, DC, China and two in Malaysia.
