Monday some Facebook employees chose not to work as part of a protest over CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s decision to take action against President Donald Trump’s controversial posts.
The virtual walkout comes after several social media posts from the president referencing the violent protests across the country.
One Facebook employee says he disagrees with Zuckerberg’s decision to do “nothing” about Trump’s recent posts and said there isn’t a neutral position on racism.
Zuckerberg said that though he personally had a negative reaction to Trump’s posts, he also felt Facebook had a commitment to free expression.
The company reportedly told managers not to retaliate against staff who are planning to protest or to make them use paid time-off.
Facebook released a statement saying the company recognizes the pain many people are feeling and it encourages employees to speak openly when they disagree with leadership.
Last week Twitter labeled a few Trump’s tweets about mail-in voting with fact checks and warning labels.
They called the tweets “potentially misleading.”
Last week Zuckerberg and Trump spoke on the phone following Twitter’s decision, which Zuckerberg criticized.
