Can this year get any weirder?
A few weeks ago we told you about the giant murder hornets that showed up in the United States for the first time ever.
The first named storm of the season popped up two weeks earlier than the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season.
And of course there’s a global pandemic going on.
Now researchers say as many as 1.5 million 17-year cicadas will emerge from the ground this year.
Cicadas are large, clear winged insects that only emerge every 13 to 17 years.
People living in Southwest Virginia and parts of North Carolina would witness this unique phenomenon.
Cicadas are a danger to orchids, vines and trees due to the egg laying habits of its females.
They are harmless to humans.
However they do make a sound similar to a high pitched, rapidly shaken baby rattle.
The noise created by the millions of cicadas emerging all at once could become somewhat of a nuisance.
For me it will be peace and quiet.
It’s one of the benefits of being deaf.
