Earthquake, typhoon and hurricane emerge at same time
Transcript
Mother nature is on a tear right now.
Within the next 24 hours, severe weather will have struck simultaneously.
At around 4 AM this morning local time, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake rattled Nevada.
Longtime residents say it was a strongest earthquake they have ever experienced.
It struck about 35 miles west of Tonopah and 225 miles northwest of Las Vegas near the California border.
No serious injuries have been reported but deputies are investigating heavy damage to US-95 north and southbound.
In the Philippines tens of thousands of people have been evacuated as a typhoon moves through the island of Luzon.
Right now typhoon Vongfong remains at Signal 2, equivalent to a category three hurricane with winds of at least 115 mph.
Currently the Philippines is under lock down due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Evacuees are asked to adhere to social distancing in emergency evacuation centers.
And even though the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season doesn’t start until June 1, a weather system is forming right now near the Bahamas.
Forecasters say there is an 80% chance the storm forms into a named storm system within 24 hours.
Its name would be Arthur.
But regardless of if it gets a name or not, the storm will bring heavy rainfall and tropical-storm force wind gusts to parts of the Florida Keys and the Bahamas.
