A new study from the Harvard School of Public Health published Tuesday says Americans may need to endure periods of social distancing until 2022 unless a vaccine becomes quickly available.
This includes measures like stay-at-home orders and school closures.
However the School of Public Health says getting a vaccine is a “long way off” and would probably take a year.
Those findings directly contradict research being promoted by the White House that suggests the pandemic may stop this summer.
Meanwhile the White House looks toward restarting the economy.
On Tuesday President Trump said “plans to reopen the country are close to being finalized.”
Federal social distancing guidelines are scheduled to end on May first.
However Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, says reopening the country by then is “overly optimistic.”
And some governors, both Republicans and Democrats” say they are being cautious.
Which means at least some form of social distancing will likely be the new normal for a while longer.
