On Tuesday the US always deadliest day yet for coronavirus cases with 1,858 recorded deaths.
More than twelve thousand people have now died.
And the epicenter of America’s outbreak, New York, saw its deadliest day of the pandemic so far.
Outside of hospitals the state is averaging about two-hundred deaths at home per day.
President Trump says this week and next week wil be “very painful” as the virus continues to spread across the country.
Despite the surge of infections and deaths, America’s top officials are remaining optimistic about reopening the country.
Meanwhile the Department of Human and health services (HHS) has ordered 600 million masks to help fight the first wave of the pandemic.
But the order will likely not arrive in time to fight this wave.
One supplier will not even begin production until September.
Another can only deliver three million masks every 90 days.
The order is separate from the deal President Trump announced with manufacturing company 3M to produce 166.5 million masks to distribute to healthcare workers fighting the outbreak.
