Last week we reported that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said it was looking into reports that some of its deputies shared graphic photos of Kobe Bryant’s crash scene.
And now eight Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are facing administrative action.
That’s according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva who told CNN on Monday.
On January 26 NBA legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven others were killed in a helicopter crash in California.
The Los Angeles Times reported deputies shared graphic photos of the scene.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the photographs may include images of the victims’ remains.
The department is investigating accusations that the deputies shared pictures of the crash scene with people outside of the crash investigation.
Villanueva says all photos of the crash that were in the possession of those deputies have been deleted.
The sheriff told CNN he was “shocked” to learn about the incident and said he felt a “sense of betrayal.”
According to the sheriff the only two groups authorized to take pictures of the crime scene were the National Transportation Safety Board and the coroner’s office.
In a statement Sunday, Kobe Bryant’s widow Vanessa Bryant said she was “absolutely devastated” to learn first responders may have shared photos of the scene.
As a result of this incident, Villanueva said his department is trying to change their policies to be more specific, and get legislation passed in Sacramento that would make it illegal to take photos of crime scenes that display human remains.
