On Saturday night, President Trump’s legal team filed a formal response to the Senate summons of the president.
It’s the first glimpse into the impeachment defense to be offered by the White House as the Senate trial gears up next week.
The response calls the two articles of impeachment “constitutionally invalid.”
It goes on to say the actions of House Democrats are “a dangerous attack on the right of the American people to freely choose the president.”
The document states President Trump “categorically and unequivocally denies” every allegation.
The President’s filing on Saturday followed the House Democrats’ filing of a trial brief to the Senate.
This document lays out their case for why President Trump should be removed from office.
House trial managers called the President’s conduct, “the Constitution framers’ worst nightmare.”
A flurry of other filings and responses are expected before Tuesday’s start of the impeachment trial in Senate chambers.
Supreme Court Justice John Roberts will preside over the proceedings.
