President Trump is already laying out his plans to respond when the House of Representatives votes on impeachment articles this week.
According to the Constitution, a president is not officially impeached until the full House of Representatives votes to approve articles of impeachment.
If the bill passes, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court resides over a trial in the Senate.
Sources say Trump and his aides will spend the holidays at his Florida resort preparing for the Senate trial.
Exactly how the Senate trial will proceed is still up in the air.
Trump and his team met on Thursday to sketch out a plan but did not reach an agreement on the final strategy.
Trump has made it clear he wants a longer Senate trial with witnesses, including the whistleblower and Hunter Biden, testifying in person.
But Trump’s aides warn that going down that path might not be the best decision and prefer a shorter trial with no witnesses.
White House insiders also say Trump is considering bringing in a high profile attorney like controversial lawyer Alan Dershowitz to defend him during the trial.
But White House counsel Pat Cipollone has been preparing to lead the President’s defense during the impeachment trial.
Regardless of the final decision, sources say Trump is confident the Republican controlled Senate will acquit him in the end.
He also insisted the impeachment has benefited him politically.
Trump says both his poll numbers and fundraising are “through the roof.”
