If you are a vaper or know someone who of vapes, listen up.
Health officials say 14 young people in two states have been hospitalized for breathing problems possibly linked to vaping.
Officials from Illinois and Wisconsin made the announcement Friday, saying those hospitalized were teenagers and young adults.
Three of the cases were in Illinois.
11 were in Wisconsin where the patients were hospitalized for severe respiratory illnesses.
A Wisconsin health official said some of the patients had to go into intensive care and be put on ventilators.
Illinois’ three cases were from the northeastern part of the state which borders Wisconsin.
Their symptoms included coughing, shortness of breath, fatigue, fever, anorexia, chest pain, nausea and diarrhea that worsened over days.
And most of the patients reported vaping in the weeks and months before being hospitalized.
According to a report from the US Surgeon General, vaping among middle and high school students increased 900 percent between 2011 and 2015.
But since vaping is relatively new, scientists still don’t understand all the ways vaping can harm a person’s health.
