A tragic scene happened in the Bronx Friday night.
One-year-old twins Mariza and Phoenix died after being left in a hot car for eight hours while their father 39-year-old Juan Rodriguez went to work his shift at the nearby VA Hospital.
Outside temperatures climbed into the mid-80s thorugh the day while the temperature inside the car reached unimaginable levels.
The twins were found unresponsive in the back of the car after Rodriguez headed back his car after work.
Witnesses say that’s when they saw Rodriguez pullover and yell for help.
Another witness overheard Rodriguez yelling “It’s not my fault! It’s an accident!”
Authorities quickly arrived on scene, covering the vehicle and assessing the situation.
Rodriguez has been charged with two counts of manslaughter and two counts of criminal negligent homicide.
He faces up to four years in prison for the criminal negligent homicide charge and up to 15 years for the manslaughter charge.
He was arraigned on Saturday and paid $50,000 on a $100,000 bond.
He has not yet entered a plea.
