Warner Brothers’ shark movie “The Meg” topped the weekend box office.
It greatly exceeded expectations by hauling in more than $44 million in North America in its opening weekend.
That’s the biggest opening of all time for a live-action shark movie.
It also had the biggest opening so far this year for Warner Brothers movie studio.
In the number two spot: “Mission Impossible-Fallout.”
The Tom Cruise movie made $20 million, for a three-week total of $162 million.
And “Christopher Robin” rounded out the top three.
The Disney movie made more than $12 million during its second weekend of domestic release.
