Authorities in Colorado announced they have charged 57-year-old Alexander Christopher Ewing with killing four people 34 years ago.
On January 10, 1984, a woman was found dead in her home.
On January 16, 1984, a man, his wife and child were found dead in their home.
Investigators saw similarities in both killings but technology was limited 30 years ago so the cases went cold but remained open.
But in 2010, a DNA link was established between Ewing and the two cases and investigators were able to track Ewing to Nevada.
He was already in jail in Nevada on separate charges.
Colorado authorities have already begun extradition proceedings.
Ewing is now facing three counts of first-degree murder, felony murder, attempted first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree sexual assault.
