Wednesday marks the 18th anniversary of 9/11.
On September 11, 2001 hijackers took control of four commercial airplanes and crashed them into the World Trade Center buildings, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.
Take a look at this video.
Sign1News dug into our archives of video footage of the Twin Towers collapsing on 9/11.
18 years ago on this tragic day nearly 3,000 people died.
Now 18 years later people are remembering those who lost their lives.
Here are a few ways victims were honored Wednesday.
In New York and at the Pentagon names of 9/11 victims were read aloud.
Moments of silence were also held around the nation in remembrance of the victims.
A new law was even passed in New York where public schools will have a brief moment of silence every September 11 at the beginning of school.
The law went into effect immediately, so students were able to observe the moment of silence Wednesday.
Also President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump layed a wreath at the Pentagon in remembrance of 9/11 victims.
