Trade war between U.S., China escalating (ASL – 9.2.19)

The trade war between the United States and China is escalating.

This weekend the US started implementing a 15 percent tariff on some consumer goods from China including shoes, TV sets and close.

President Trump has another phase of tariffs against China set to go into effect in mid December.

Trump says “We can’t allow China to rip us off anymore. We can’t allow China to take $500 billion a year out of our country.”

China has countered with its own tariffs against the US on billions of dollars of US goods.

This trade war has had a ripple effect causing concern for executives and investors worldwide.

But despite the tit-for-tat tariffs, the US and China are still expected to meet for another round of trade talks later this month.

US and Chinese officials have not given a final date for when September’s trade talks will be held and some Chinese officials say that the new US tariffs need to be stopped before things can move forward.
