The National Weather Service says hurricane Dorian has made landfall in the northern Bahamas.
And it has intensified to a massive Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 160 mph and wind gusts clocking in at 200 miles per hour.
Many Bahamians are heeding the warnings, boarding of their homes and evacuating.
But others have refused to leave.
Authorities are warning those residents there is only a small window of opportunity where they can offer assistance.
When that window closes, residents will have to fend for themselves.
No assistance is coming until the dangers of the storm have passed.
Also because the storm’s track shifted Saturday, Florida may not take a direct hit.
But officials there say now is not the time to breathe a sigh of relief.
Even if Dorian does not make landfall in Florida, the state could get slammed with powerful winds, heavy rain and a dangerous storm surge.
All of Florida is under a state of emergency as well as in North and South Carolina and multiple counties in Georgia.
Again we want to remind you: Sign1News will be posting live press conferences on storm updates and warnings from local, state and federal officials with sign language interpretation on our app, website, YouTube and Facebook page.
