Nearly a month after a hurricane devastated Puerto Rico, government officials confirmed the death toll is more than what was initially reported ñ nearly 20 times more.
In a report posted online, Puerto Rican officials acknowledged more than 1,400 people likely died in the aftermath of hurricane Maria, which is a significant increase from the official death toll of 64.
The figures come from death registry statistics released in June, but never publicly acknowledged by officials on the island.
