Britain’s ambassador to the United States Kim Darroch has resigned just days after it was revealed that he called the Trump administration “inept” and “clumsy.”
The decision follows the leak of diplomatic correspondence to the Daily Mail newspaper where Darroch warned the UK government that Trump’s “career could end in disgrace,” and described conflicts within the White House as “knife fights.”
On Monday Trump said the White House would no longer deal with Darroch.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May says the ambassador’s resignation was a “matter of great regret.”
In his resignation letter, Darroch wrote: “I believe in the current circumstances, the responsible course is to allow the appointment of a new ambassador.”
