In Peru an earthquake with a preliminary 8.0 magnitude struck Sunday morning.
It happened in the northern part of the country but it was felt as far away as Venezuela and Ecuador.
The United States geological survey says the earthquake had an approximate depth of 115 kilometers, which is about 70 miles.
On Twitter, Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra called on citizens to remain calm.
Authorities say one person was killed.
In 2007 a magnitude 8.0 earthquake hit southern Peru.
That quake killed 514 people.
