We have an update to a story we shared with you last week.
On April 25 a semitruck barreled into stopped traffic on Interstate 70 near Denver causing a 28 car pileup.
Many of those vehicles became engulfed in flames, killing four people and injuring four others.
The driver of the truck, 23-year-old Rogel Aguilera-Mederos is now facing 40 criminal counts.
Those charges include vehicular homicide, reckless driving, first-degree assault and attempted first-degree assault.
Each of the first degree assault charges carry sentences of 10 to 32 years in prison.
The district attorney says the truck’s estimated speed at the time of the crash was over 85 mph.
The speed limit for semitrucks is 45 mph.
Aguilera-Mederos said his brakes failed.
He is being held on a $400,000 bond.
