Police in Surprise, Arizona say 37-year-old Isiah Jackson shot his 13-year-old stepdaughter in the chest with a pellet gun for stealing food.
According to local news station KNXV, Jackson told police he did not shoot the teen girl on purpose but he admitted the girl gets in trouble for eating scraps from the trash.
According to court documents, the teen was airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital for emergency surgery because the pellet hit the outside sack of her heart.
Police are not releasing her current condition at this time.
They said in a press release, Jackson has been charged with aggravated assault and child abuse.
At last check, he was still in jail and has a court date this month.
