The strongest tropical cyclone to hit India in 20 years made landfall today.
Forecasters say the storm brought ferocious winds speeds of 250 kilometers per hour.
That’s the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane.
At least seven people are dead and more than 1 million others have been evacuated from one Indian state alone.
Officials say thanks to the efforts of the weather department and local authorities mandating evacuations, damage in terms of human fatalities is much less compared to the last big storm 20 years ago.
In 1999 close to 10,000 people died.
The storm is expected to weaken as it moves north.
