A Cantonese opera now playing in Hong Kong may not win any awards but it’s sure to raise a few eyebrows for its unique portrayal of US President Donald Trump.
Trump is singing!
The storyline envisions what could happen if Trump had a long-lost twin who was raised in China.
Cantonese opera was once one of Hong Kong’s most popular pastimes, known for its colorful costumes and exaggerated hand gestures.
But since the 1960s its popularity has plummeted.
Writer and director Li Kui-Ming hopes his modern twist can revive the centuries-old art form.
And he says Trump’s outrageous personality is the perfect character for the stage.
Li hopes to one day take the show on the road to Japan, Singapore, even Broadway and hopefully in front of Trump himself one day.
