The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers against “vampire treatments.”
That’s when a person receives plasma infusions from young blood donors in order to look and feel young.
Companies are charging thousands of dollars, claiming the infusions can treat a number of conditions and slow down aging.
The FDA says many of the benefits don’t exist.
However while the FDA strongly discourages consumers from falling for these fountain of youth claims, there are some treatments where a patient’s own plasma is used and those remain legal.
And while the procedure is usually safe for people who do not have problems with blood clotting, doctors urge you to make sure you do your homework before trying it.
