President Trump signed a directive Tuesday to create the newest branch of the US military.
It’s called the Space Force and the White House says it will monitor the skies to protect the US from attack.
Trump first announced the proposal last June.
He wanted the Space Force to be the sixth branch of the armed forces.
However the directive differs somewhat from Trump’s original vision.
The White House says the Space Force will be under the umbrella of the Air Force for now, not a separate 6th agency.
Supporters of the new plan say having the Space Force as part of the Air Force will keep costs down.
