Starting with Thursday’s swearing-in, there were more women than ever before in the House of Representatives.
The 116th Congress also has more openly LGBTQ House members than ever.
Additionally it set records for the highest number of Black and Latino members.
116th Congress also welcomes its first ever Native American women and Muslim women and the youngest woman ever elected to Congress.
Also today Nancy Pelosi was elected Speaker of the House.
Of the 435 House of Representatives votes, she needed 216. She received 220.
She previously held the title from 2007 to 2011.
